KIRSTEN KRAG was the daughter of the vicar of Ousted and Alleslev in Sjaelland. Johan attended Viborg School, leaving on 15 Jul 1724. In 1732 he was appointed ship's chaplain on board the "Kronprinsen". On 1 Jul 1735 he was appointed Vicar of Finaas. Despite his time as a seagoing chaplain he disliked the water and had a bridle path built to Bremnaes Church, presumably hitherto reachable only by boat. On 7 Feb 1744 he became Vicar of Viborg, but a few months later (24 Jul) resigned to become Vicar of Voss. There he quarrelled with some of his parishoners over his income, and started to refuse communion to those owing him money, for which he was rebuked by Bishop Pontoppidan. Johan and Kirsten were reported to have had 8 children, all except Drude dying in childhood, the twins Jakob and Niels shortly after their births. Johan died at Voss. Kirsten and her one surviving daughter then moved to Bergen.
