ARNE ARNESEN HOPE was born at Hope (Indre). He took over his father's farm in 1817.

    SYGNI JONSDTR HAUGSVAER was born in the neighbouring hamlet of Haugsvaer.

    Arne's mother was Sygni's cousin, so their marriage created an unusual relationship, albeit slightly more distant than marrying one's own cousin.

    ARNE took over his father's farm on 4 August 1843. He married (1847) Brita Monsdtr Sondre Hope (b 1832) (see 32) and they had 10 children. Brita died on 24 July 1904.

    MARTINUS married (1857) Brita Ivarsdtr, born in 1821 at Lauvais in Lindaas, and widow of Kristen Kristensen Sandnes (see 36) with whom she had had 3 children. He took over her farm at Sandnesneset. They had 5 more children.

    MARTA married (24 Jun 1850) Rognald Olsen Haugsvaer. They had no children. After she died Rognald remarried and had two sons.

    JON went to Rosa in Gulen.

    OLA married (24 Jun 1863) Ragnhild, youngest daughter of Knut Olsen Haugdal. They had a daughter Sygni (b 23 Sep 1863) and subsequently moved to Kjellberg in Gulen.

    ANDREA did not marry.
