Buffalo, Erie, New York, United States |
Charles Berner, was born Charles Aigner, son of Johann Engelmeier and Anna Aigner. He never knew he wasn't really a Berner until he was about to marry. His step-parents must have told him then. He went to Supreme Court to legally change his name to Berner, and in his court papers he states he never knew he wasn't Charles Berner, that Theresa and Conrad Berner had raised him since he was 2 weeks old and he even registered for the draft and served in the US Army during World War I under that name. He changed his name to Berner on 06 May 1924 and was married the next day. |
